Sweden must act stronger for women’s right to use and own forests, experts in the Agroforestry Network write in today´s Nya Wermlands-Tidningen (NWT). Sweden defines its foreign policy as feminist. One area in focus is to strengthen women’s economic empowerment by, among other things, promoting non-discriminatory legislation. Today women are discriminated against in regards to the rights to use and own forest land. The Agroforestry Network believes that these abuses to women’s rights can be broken and now request that the Swedish government, in the context of its international cooperation, act more vigorously by;

  1. Promoting equal and sustainable management of the forest landscape including strengthened female participation.
  2. Promoting that the Green Climate Fund opens up for different types of ownership and does not lock out women because they lack legal rights.
  3. Demanding that the Green Climate Fund promotes female ownership.
  4. Observing the recommendations presented by UN Women in the practical manual Mainstreaming Gender in Green Climate Fund Projects.
