From policy to action: Investing in women for a just agrifood systems transformation

Channelling investments and fostering partnerships to enable rural women to secure their livelihoods, rights, and resilience is key to building a better future for the people and the planet. This event highlights initiatives focused on sustainable investments and partnerships for food security and nutrition under the Joint Programme on Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE) and FAO’s Commit to Grow Equality (CGE) initiative.

The JP RWEE, led by the Rome-based agencies and UN Women, works to strengthen gender-transformative legal frameworks, policies, and institutions, driving finance to rural women farmers and their cooperatives, and building resilience to social, economic and climate shocks. The CGE initiative calls on stakeholders to make tangible commitments to enhance gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment in agrifood systems. The JP RWEE supports the implementation of the CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Gender Equality and Women’s and Girls’ Empowerment in the Context of Food Security and Nutrition that were endorsed in October 2023, thus reinforcing global efforts to tackle gender inequalities.
