Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) has direct and indirect implications for nutrition. There is increasing awareness that food and nutrition security interventions may fail unless combined with WASH interventions, especially in low and middle-income countries.

The SIANI Expert Group Strengthening Collaboration at the WASH, Food and Nutrition nexus to build Community Resilience in Low-Income Countries (WASHnut) have engaged with 80 actors from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Sweden in knowledge exchange about cross-sectoral experiences related to water, sanitation, hygiene, food and nutrition. The group conducted interviews, workshops and site visits. Some of the involved actors being the Swedish Environmental Institute, The Swedish Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm Resilience Center, Salvation Army Sweden (Frälsningsarmén), Salvation Army Kenya East, Borda/Sanergy Kenya, International Red Cross Burkina Faso, Lund University, Swedish University of Agricultural Science, The Karolinska Institute, Rambölls Sweden, Great Leaks University Kenya and Wateraid Sweden.

The results from this undertaking received wider attention by the Swedish educational TV in this episode and were used as discussion material in Swedish schools.
