SIANI secretariat organizes yearly network meetings to provide an opportunity for members to interact with each other and to reflect on the work-plan of the year ahead. This year we will look at the impact of climate change on food security and nutrition as a theme for the meeting. We invite you to explore how our network and its members can contribute to the global nutrition agenda.
One in three people worldwide still suffers from malnutrition. In stark contrast with the objective to end all forms of malnutrition by 2030. A development goal even harder to reach as we at the same time experiencing a global change in the climate. The impact of climate change occurs in many different forms as we today experiencing new unpredictable weather patterns, with more frequent extremes like longer lasting droughts, sea level rise, soil erosion, flooding and landslides to mention a few. Contributing to new environmental challenges which humans not always can be prepared for.
Every human being has the right to adequate food. However, we only can realize this right if we have a food system that facilitates healthy and sustainable food choices. A food system that accommodates the needs of vulnerable people with specific nutrient requirements, like young children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and ill people, or people with less control over their diets because of poverty and marginalization.
Two years ago the UN General Assembly proclaimed 2016–2025 as the United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition. At this year’s Annual Meeting we will raise awareness and follow the nutrition trail and the impacts of Climate Change. We want all voices to be heard to tackle this challenge and therefore are Governments, inter-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, academia and other actors invited to make commitments and advance on the global nutrition agenda, following the recommendations of the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Rome Declaration on Nutrition.
We do not offer any sponsorships or accommodation for attending the event. We see this event as providing great value for our members and as such there will be no per diem offered for attendance.
