Welcome to a scientific dialogue on climate change. In 2021 and 2022, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will present its sixth assessment report, and SLU takes the launch as an opportunity to discuss the current scientific knowledge about climate change in a series of conversations. The first one takes place on the morning of 18 October.

This webinar sets its focus on future land use, a topic where SLU holds diverse and unique competences, and points towards ways forward incorporating cross-disciplinary approaches.

The introduction will include a brief presentation of the sixth IPCC assessment report AR6 Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis. Then we will hear four keynote presentations, followed by a panel discussion and an open floor discussion, lead by moderator Ingrid Öborn.

Markku Rummukainen, Sweden’s representative in the IPCC and professor of Climatology at Lund University, will talk about the comprehensive global mission of the U.N. Climate Panel and discuss how the latest report has been crafted. He also offers an outlook on its possible uses.

Saleemul Huq, Director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and Professor at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) will share his expertise on the links between climate change and sustainable development, particularly from the perspective of developing countries.

Professor Kristina Blennow, from the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management at SLU, will share her expertise in climate change questions concerning urban landscapes, from e.g. risk assessment to guidelines for adequate communication, across disciplines to meet challenges and move forward.

Erik Karltun, researcher at the SLU Department of Soil and Environment, will reflect on the current status on main drivers of green-house gas emissions and uptake from land-use, with focus on forestry and agriculture.
