In spite of increasing growth rates in global food production during the past 20 years, hunger and undernutrition continues to plague a large share of the world’s population. The number of people suffering from chronic hunger has recently been assessed by the FAO to close to 850 million. According to the WHO, more than 2 billion people suffer from ‘hidden hunger’ (micronutrient deficiencies). The persistence in the 21st century of mass hunger and malnutrition places new and additional demands on agriculture and agricultural production systems broadly defined to improve the nutrition and health of poor farmers and consumers in developing countries.

Aim of the workshop

The nexus agriculture, nutrition, and health is complex in theory as well as in practice. It is the aim of this workshop to bring together young scientist from different disciplinary backgrounds to present, discuss and exchange experiences on research problems, ideas and perspectives in relation to this theme.
