FAO Global Agrifood Biotechnologies Conference ​

As part of its 80th Anniversary celebrations, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to invite you to the FAO Global Agrifood Biotechnologies Conference titled ”Biotechnologies for a Sustainable Future: Driving Agrifood Systems Transformation”, taking place from 16 to 18 June 2025 at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

This conference will bring together policymakers, scientists, civil society, private sector and other key stakeholders to discuss the latest advancements, opportunities, and risks in agrifood biotechnologies. It will provide a neutral platform to explore how biotechnologies—ranging from low-tech applications to cutting-edge innovations such as genome editing and synthetic biology—can contribute to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.

Key themes include:

The transformative role of biotechnologies in food security, nutrition and sustainability.
Integration of digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and bioinformatics.
Policy and regulatory frameworks ensuring safe and equitable biotechnology applications.
Global collaboration for scaling biotechnological solutions and responsible adoption.
We also encourage you to participate in two exciting calls associated with the conference:

  • Call for Poster Abstracts – Showcase your research and innovations. (Deadline: 9 May 2025)
  •  Biotech Innovation Challenge – Present your pioneering biotech solutions for agrifood systems transformation. (Deadline: 9 May 2025)

The deadline for in-person registration is 9 May 2025.

This is primarily an in-person conference and we look forward to seeing you all in Rome, Italy. However, if in-person is not possible, please register for online participation.
