NIRAS is seeking to recruit a Project Manager (PM) to assist in the winning and delivery of projects in international development, with a focus on agriculture, private sector development, investment and trade.

Working conditions

NIRAS has a flat structure, and all staff have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our business, to share ideas and to make rapid progression in their own careers. NIRAS have attractive working conditions, including remote work for 1-2 days per week and collective agreement. NIRAS offer an open working atmosphere in an international field of activities.

Role

The role will be based in the NIRAS Sweden Stockholm office and will require travel from time to time. The majority of work will be carried out in close collaboration with one/more of our international offices.

Your work will be split into three categories: business development, project management, and consulting. The majority of your time will be spent on business development.

  • Business development: use NIRAS internal opportunities database and business development processes to identify and develop new opportunities (projects). Manage tenders, including identifying and negotiating with partners and experts, as well as writing technical proposals for winning development projects.
  • Project management: project manage the successful implementation of projects in agriculture, private sector development and trade, including contract and client management to ensure projects are resourced and delivered according to agreed timelines and within budget. Provide support to Team Leaders and additional contracted experts.
  • Consulting: provide technical support to projects in your technical areas of expertise.
Profile

To be successful in this role, ideal candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong academic credentials. A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as development economics, international trade and finance, and agriculture.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in the one or more of the fields of agriculture, agribusiness, private sector development, financing instruments for private sector (e.g. guarantees, challenge funds, impact investing, microfinance etc.), and trade (e.g. policy, export promotion, technical barriers to trade etc.), or other related fields.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the opportunities and challenges involved in scaling agribusinesses in developing countries, promoting private sector development, trade and EU integration processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and an ability and willingness to work effectively with colleagues with different skill sets and from different cultural backgrounds. Ability to negotiate effectively.

In addition to the requirements, the following experience will be seen as assets:

  • Prior experience in a consulting company, working experience with some of our key donors or implementing projects in developing countries.
  • Experience in cross-cutting issues such as gender/women’s economic empowerment, climate change and environment, and/or peace and security.
  • Additional language skills, including Swedish, French, and Spanish.

Personal strengths important for the role include:

  • Analytical skills and the ability to quickly and effectively analyse large volumes of information are important. Demonstrated competency in analysing financial information and developing project budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders, including clients, partner organisations, and consultants is essential.
  • Ability to think and work proactively, creatively and strategically under pressure or when faced with competing demands.
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
