Nearly all young people aged 15-24 residing in developing countries. Their numbers are growing far more rapidly in lower-income countries than in higher-income countries, particularly in rural areas. In fact, rural youth make up around half of all young people in developing countries. Young people have enormous potential.

Investing in young people can yield boundless results in terms of poverty reduction, employment generation and food and nutrition security. After all, they are the farmers, workers and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Their energy and dynamism are needed to transform food systems and rural areas. They can help feed the world and thus solve one of the biggest global challenges. These young women and men are key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and indeed, to our planet’s future.

We invite you to the launch of the IFADs 2019 Rural Development Report: Creating Opportunities for Youth which will be presented by Gilbert Huongbo, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Paul Winters Associate Vice-President of Strategy and Knowledge Department (IFAD).

IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries. IFAD has a unique mandate, focusing exclusively on rural areas and targeting the poorest and most deprived segments of the rural population.
