Call for research proposals on “Agroecological innovations for territorial markets” under the funding instrument

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL)

The announcement focuses on research into the potential of agroecology for territorial markets and value chains in order to improve food security locally and thus indirectly promote a sustainable transformation of agricultural and food systems.

The call for proposals aims to encourage submissions, fostering cooperative research projects between agricultural and nutritional science research institutions in Germany and their counterparts in Sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, which contribute to the research and establishment of innovative, resilient, regionally adapted, and sustainable agricultural and food systems. The main objective is to improve the nutritional situation of the population in the target regions by providing sufficient high-quality food. The results of the research projects should in the long term contribute to food security and food sovereignty in the target regions.

The short research proposals should reflect an inter- and transdisciplinary multi-stakeholder approach and develop practical, feasible and sustainable solutions adapted to the local context.

Funding is only available for consortia consisting of at least one German research institution and at least one research institution from Sub-Saharan Africa and/or South and/or Southeast Asia.
