SIANI's mission is to lay the foundation for a coherent Swedish response to the 21st century food and farming challenge. We are an inter-disciplinary network where government, civil society, industry and research come together to address the crucial need for global agricultural development strategies that ensure food security, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability.
Why Women Matter in Agriculture
As a follow up on the five country evaluation of Gender in Sida Agricultural Programmes finalized last year, SIANI invited a number of experts from African countries to join with Swedish counterparts and design guidelines for overcoming the barriers which prevent greater gender equality in agriculture.
The process was kicked off with a public seminar at Sida on April 5th, followed up by a three day write shop. This format is new for SIANI and has been developed in an effort to focus on follow-up after our public seminars.
