UN: A Quarter of Global Farmland Degraded

The FAO has completed the first global assessment of the state of the planet's land resources, finding that a quarter of all farmland is highly degraded and warning the trend must be reversed if the world's growing population is to be fed. SIANI event at ARDD in Durban

SIANI organized one of the learning events at this year's Agriculture and Rural Development Day, a side event to the COP 17 climate negotiations. The event looked at Vi Agroforestry/KACP's innovative ways to use green house gas mitigation funding for a transition to sustainable, productive and climate resilient agricultural practices. Agriculture was (as usual) not very high on the agenda during the Fourth High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness, this time held in Busan, South Korea, Nov 29-Dec 1.
