Mission

SIANI's mission is to lay the foundation for a Coherent Swedish Response to the 21st century Food and Farming Challenge. This is in line with the Swedish Policy for Global Development, which higlights the need for policy coherence across sectors. SIANI aims to gather government, civil society, industry and research around the same table to discuss Sweden’s contribution to the kind of global agricultural development that everybody wants; where the goals of food security, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability are all met. 

The overall objectives of SIANI are to put in place a long-term form of institutional support for Swedish policy development and to strengthen the capacity and competence of Swedish institutions an other actors.Other important aims of SIANI are to stimulate the Swedish debate on agriculture for development and to highlight the importance of the agricultural sector when it comes to meeting several of the Millenium Development Goals.

The SIANI secretariat facilitates dialogue and exchange among a wide range of stakeholders through seminars, issues based expert groups and other strategic initiatives.
